Henka Healing is based in Manchester UK. It is a branch of the Jikiden Reiki Institute which is based in Kyoto, Japan but has branches worldwide. Joanne and Ian became Jikiden Reiki Shihans (teachers) in May 2006 and became the 42^nd Shihan in the world.

Joanne and Ian were both previously “western” style reiki practitioners and combined have over twenty years experience of practicing reiki. Joanne became a reiki master in 2002 after practicing reiki for several years. Joanne always felt drawn towards Japan and on a trip there in 2004, she researched Japanese Reiki schools and discovered the existence of Jikiden Reiki.  Joanne and Ian developed their reiki awareness and skills by training in Jikiden Reiki and since then they have concentrated on using Jikiden Reiki methods of reiki.

Since 2005, they have trained over 100 Jikiden Reiki students and have travelled to Japan several times when they reached Shihan Kaku (assistant teacher) and Shihans.

Always interested in furthering their spiritual awareness, Ian became an Ifa priest of the Yoruba system and was initiated in Ile Ife, Nigeria in 2006. Joanne was pre-initiated into Osun in Nigeria in 2007. Ian is also initiated into the ancient and mystical order of the Rosicrucian tradition.

Joanne and Ian are also qualified clinical hypnotherapists.
